GE Chairman and CEO, Jeff Immelt’s Statement on the U.S. Free Trade Agreements

FAIRFIELD, CT. – October 3, 2011 - For several years, we have pressed for approval of the Colombia, Korea and Panama Free Trade Agreements. We are pleased that the White House has today sent them to Congress, and we urge Congress to pass the agreements and Trade Adjustment Assistance quickly. These trade agreements are an important step toward promoting jobs and competitiveness. Many of the products GE and other U.S. companies make are for export. For example, 100% of the heavy-duty gas turbines manufactured by GE’s 3300 employees in Greenville, SC, will be exported this year. Today’s action will help support export growth to three important markets, and lays the groundwork for the Administration to move forward with further market-opening trade agreements.
