GE Healthcare’s Vscan Wins TechAmerica Award

Innovative ultrasound device takes inaugural “Breakthrough Technology Award”

WAUWATOSA, WI, June 18, 2010 – GE Healthcare (NYSE: GE) is pleased to announce that its innovative, pocket-sized, ultrasound device called the Vscan was named the winner in the Breakthrough Technology Award category of the American Technology Awards. The awards are organized by the foundation of TechAmerica, a technology industry trade association. The announcement was made Wednesday at the foundation’s Eighth Annual Technology and Government dinner in Washington, D.C.

“We’ve long believed we produce some of the most innovative and customer targeted technology in the healthcare sector,” said Agnes Berzsenyi, general manager of primary care ultrasound, GE Healthcare. “But, it is a true honor to be recognized as a leader amongst some of the best known technology companies in the world.”

The American Technology Awards were presented in 17 different categories recognizing the “best of” technology products and services.

“We had a lot of nominations for these prestigious awards, and we congratulate GE Healthcare for their winning achievement in the Vscan device,” said Phil Bond, chairman, TechAmerica Foundation. “The Foundation is excited to recognize GE Healthcare as it continues to influence technology development worldwide.”

GE Healthcare’s Vscan is a visualization tool developed to provide physicians with imaging capabilities at the point-of-care. Roughly the size of a smart phone, Vscan houses powerful ultrasound technology that provides clinicians with an immediate, non-invasive method to help secure visual information about what is happening inside the body. Vscan is portable and can easily be taken from room to room to be used in many clinical, hospital or primary care settings.

The Vscan is a prescription device for ultrasound imaging, measurement and analysis in the clinical applications of abdominal; cardiac (adult and pediatric); urological, fetal/OB; pediatric; and thoracic/pleural motion and fluid detection, as well as for patient examination in primary care and in special care areas.
