WAUKESHA, Wis., —June 24, 2010—GE Healthcare, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), announced the installation of two new Optima™ MR450w wide bore magnetic resonance imaging systems at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City.  The first unit was installed at the Center for Image Guided Intervention and the second is located at the Breast and Imaging Center.

Designed with a 70cm wide bore, the Optima MR450w offers a range of advanced new functionality that improves patient comfort and provides uncompromised image quality to aid in diagnoses.  The 70cm bore enables greater freedom for patient positioning and access for interventional procedures, giving physicians new ways to care for patients.  At the Center for Image Guided Intervention, the Optima MR450w is configured with GE Healthcare exclusive MR-guided Focused Ultrasound technology, a non-invasive treatment device.

With an expansive 50cm field of view, the high-performance system can cover more anatomy in fewer scans to help reduce patient anxiety and improve workflow.  Combined with GE Healthcare’s new MRI architecture and unique clinical applications, the Optima MR450w offers a new range of advanced functionality.

“The installation of the Optima MR450w aligns well with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s expectations to offer powerful and thorough treatment options based on individual patient needs,” said Jim Davis, general manager of GE Healthcare’s Magnetic Resonance business. “This scanner is a truly ideal match for this luminary hospital.”

GE Healthcare continues to install the Optima MR450w globally.  Over 100 orders for the scanner have been received to date.
