UTC Fire & Security Introduces Vector Series of Advanced Motion Sensors

New technologies and sophisticated optics improve detection coverage and help to prevent false alarms and sabotage

Brussels – 10 May 2010 – UTC Fire & Security’s Global Security Products business today launched a new series of motion sensors that improve detection coverage, reduce false alarms and guard against sabotage. The Vector series uses patented vector pattern recognition technology unique to UTC Fire & Security.

Vector motion sensors detect both the presence and the direction of motion of a thermal source, a major development in motion-sensing technology. They use an enhanced, custom-designed pyro-electric sensor and patented Vector Verified Enhanced (V2ETM) signal processing. This provides dense coverage and reliable motion pattern analysis that filters out nuisance readings such as those triggered by stationary thermal signals.

“The upshot is that the Vector series of sensors reduce significantly the number of false alarms while improving the detection coverage of UTC Fire & Security’s passive infrareds - themselves used as a benchmark by the security industry,” said Bart Otten President EMEA Global Security Products, UTC Fire & Security

The anti-masking variants in the Vector series protect against sabotage by detecting a wide range of materials, sprays and lubricants and reporting these to the operator. The latest anti-masking technology protects the outside and the inside of the detector.

The new motion sensors can be used across a wide range of sites, from commercial and residential premises to high-risk and harsh environments. They’re simple to install and can be mounted in difficult environments -like small rooms or rooms with large windows – without having to be adjusted for sensitivity. And they’re not easily obstructed by things like tall aisles or ceiling signs.

The Vector series is European Norm (EN50131) certified, has several country security approvals and is available across the EMEA region. UTC Fire & Security’s quality standards dictate that each and every unit be tested and calibrated before leaving the factory.
