Smaller Businesses Get ‘High End’ Life Safety Systems
UTC Fire & Security launches 2X Series intelligent fire panels
Brussels – 10 May 2010 – UTC Fire & Security’s Global Security Products business today launched a new range of intelligent fire panels for smaller businesses. The intuitive 2X Series life safety control system is designed to bring the speed and reliability of high-end intelligent processing to small and mid-sized ‘addressable’ applications. UTC Fire & Security is a business unit of United Technologies Corp.
The 2X Series is a multi-processor-based system with panels of up to four loops supporting as many as 256 zones. A total of 32 loops can be networked together in any combination, from eight four-loop panels to 32 one-loopers providing increased scalability and flexibility.
The product was designed for quick installation and easy maintenance. Features include:
- eight programmable supervised outputs that can be dedicated to sounder control and fire routing
- intuitive front panel control with centrally-located Jog Dial
- ethernet port with TCP/IP connectivity for programming and maintenance
- programmable with a memory stick
- events identified by LCD display icons for easier fire and fault resolution
- optional 20–40 zone fire and fault LED board with customisable text
- easy-to-remove panel doors and electronics
- operating platform certified for life safety system applications
- full line of addressable and conventional accessories

The 2X Series product line is designed for compliance across Europe and includes user interfaces accommodating regional requirements. It conforms to the latest EN norms, is CPD-certified and meets country-specific standards in Britain (BS5839-1) and Belgium (NBN S21-100). Further country-specific standard certification is planned in the coming months.
The innovative technology used in UTC Fire & Security’s advanced fire detection systems is developed at its Global R&D Centre of Excellence in Barcelona. The fire panels are manufactured at its newly-expanded manufacturing facility in Cape Town. Over 21,000 hours of independent testing have been conducted with the product in 17 different locations.
The 2X Series fire panels are available across the EMEA region. User interface inserts, menus and manuals come in Catalan, Czech, Danish, English, Finnish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. Other languages will follow soon.
